Updates to Google Classroom

Google Classroom has introduced a few notable updates for the new school year. Some of the feature include the ability to add a question for students to answer right in classroom, as well as reusing an assignment from another class. Apparently it will also integrate with Google Calendar in the coming months as well!

Storybird

I came across this writing website this summer called storybird.com. It is a digital book creation website that focuses on having students develop a story from really captivating images. On this site you can create an account as an educator and set it up so that the books your students create are shared on a class shelf. Students can make picture books, chapter books, or poems from a single image. Even if you aren't interested in using the site with your whole class, it is worth checking out just for the images. Some of them would make fantastic picture prompts! The best part is, it is very user friendly!

Back to School Activity

I saw this idea online for a "Facebook" back-to-school activity, and decided to recreate and modify it a bit for my sixth graders. I figured I would share in case anyone else is interested in using it with their students. I created it in Google Slides, so just click the link below and make a copy for yourself :)

Another activity that I am going to do with my kids is "Two truths and a fib". The students each write two true statements and one false statement about themselves, and their classmates have to try and guess which on is the fib. Click the picture below to go to the document.

Anyone else have any great back to school activities that you use or are going to try out this year??  Add them to the comments to share with everyone!
